The Equipment Fund
The role of the Equipment Fund is to provide research institutions with funding to buy expensive equipment for the purpose of research. When allocating grants from the Equipment Fund, the Icelandic Research Fund’s current grant allocation policy should be observed, as the Icelandic Research Fund’s board members are also responsible for the running of the Equipment Fund (see information about the Icelandic Research Fund). The Equipment Fund’s grant only covers a part of the expenses concerning the investment.
When allocating grants from the Equipment Fund the following should also be observed:
- That the equipment is important for progress in research in Iceland, as well as for the research undertaken by the applicant.
- That investment in the equipment will bring about new facilities, which will create new possibilities for research, and/or the equipment is connected to projects funded by the Icelandic Research Fund.
- That the equipment is located at research or academic institutions.
- That the usage of the equipment will be, in a foreseeable manner, in cooperation between institutions or between institutions and businesses.
- That expenses and finance strategies regarding the purchase are realistic.
