The Non-Fiction Writers' Fund
The main purpose of the Non-Fiction Writers' Fund is to facilitate the writing of books and electronic work, in order to support and strengthen Icelandic culture. Those eligible for grants are authors of general non-fiction work, reference books, dictionaries and extensive information material in Icelandic in various forms.
The fund’s board is appointed by the Minister of Education, Science and Culture for a two-year term. One member is nominated by the Icelandic Centre for Research and the other by Hagþenkir, the Organisation of Authors of Non-fiction and Educational Writing. The board’s chairman is appointed without nomination.
The board allocates funding from the fund on an annual basis. Funding is granted for six months or one year, two years or three years. Those allocated a grant should, as a general rule, not be permanently employed during the time they recieve the grant. They should also deliver a report on their work during the grant period, no later than a year after the end of the funded period.
Further information about the Non-fiction Writers’ Fund can be obtained at the Rannís office.
