Framkvæmdastjórn ESB vinnur nú að skilgreiningu og lýsingu á þeim hluta Upplýsingatækniáætlunar 7. RÁ sem lítur að framtíðartækni eða Future and Emerging Technologies (FET). Í þessari vinnu er litið til ábendinga og athugasemda fjölmargra hagsmunaaðila og er vísindasamfélaginu á Íslandi boðið koma með sitt innlegg.

The Future and Emerging Technologies Unit (FET) of the European Commission's Information Society and Media Directorate General has launched a series of public consultations to define the major challenges and research directions on FET that could be supported in the forthcoming 7th Framework Programme (FP7). This consultation follows up on the work of several thematic expert groups that have produced reports expressing visions and research agendas for "Pervasive Computing and Communications", "Nanoelectronics and Nanotechnologies", "Security, Dependability and Trust", "Bio-ICT Synergies", "Intelligent and Cognitive Systems", "Software Intensive Systems" (1), "Quantum Information Processing and Communication" (2), and "Complexity Research" (3).

With these consultations, FET is collecting ideas for new research directions that are novel and mobilize multidisciplinary research teams. They should address research of along-term nature or involve particularlyhigh risks, compensated by thepotential of a significant societal or industrial impact. FET is also interested to receive views onprogramme implementation issues, e.g., on appropriate duration and size of projects, issues of interdisciplinarity, continuity of support, evaluation criteria and process, relations to other initiatives, etc. It also welcomes more general comments, to point out omissions or inaccuracies, or to provide arguments for or against a proposed research topic.

The consultation runs until March 31st 2006.  http://www.cordis.lu/ist/fet/id.htm
