"Peripheral Proletarianism" investigated proletarian literature written during the interwar period (1918-1939). Focusing on literature written in locations traditionally understood as peripheral vis-à-vis the economic and cultural centers of the period (i.e., London, Paris, New York,  Moscow), the project contributed to discussions of peripheral literary traditions.

The goal was to conduct research for a monograph and to submit a book proposal to publishers, publish papers and book chapters,
host two international conferences, form a network of scholars working within the field of
internationalist world literature, and get two editorial projects off the ground. The aim was to bring
international and transnational perspectives to the study of proletarian literature and to take on the definition of the world in world literature studies. The project's main results included the PI's
contributions to forming and shaping a new sub-field within World Literature studies and opening up new areas of comparative literary studies. As evidenced by the two conferences and the two editorial projects, this research project has had an impact beyond the Icelandic academic community while simultaneously enriching literary studies in Iceland.

Information on how the results will be applied:
The project has had an impact beyond the Icelandic academic community and contributed to the
formation of a new sub-field within world literature studies. This field is developing rapidly, and the research project contributed to its formation in multiple ways. Furthermore, the methodological questions and new approaches to the study of literature have enriched the academic community in Iceland. Finally, the project has engaged the public as our conferences have been open to the public and the organizers did public outreach in Icelandic media.

A list of the project’s outputs:
Two editorial projects that bring together scholars working on diverse national literary traditions,
two international academic conferences, publications in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, as well as a book-proposal and a manuscript for the PI’s monograph. In addition, a robust network of scholars working on the theme of Internationalist World Literature has been formed.
