The objective of the project was to include Iceland in the rigorous and highly disciplined European Social Survey (ESS). Including Iceland in round 6 of the ESS provides the Icelandic and international academic community with valuable information about the civic society, personal and social well-being and Europeans' understanding and expectation of democracy.

The ESS dataset is a valuable infrastructure for comparative social and political research questions for the academic community. In addition to opportunities for data analysis, Iceland gains from being part of comparative analysis of a large number of international social scientists. The high quality ESS round 6 dataset is already the base for valuable journal articles, books and reports on various issues that contribute to increased understanding of Icelandic society and democratic process.
