The results of the project will be important for future reconstructions of the dynamics of the Kara Sea Ice Sheet in time and space and its role in the growth and decay of the former Eurasian Ice Sheet, as well as for past climate change in the Arctic.
Lesa meiraMikilvægt er að setja þá hlýnun sem nú á sér stað á Norðurslóðum í lengra tímasamhengi til þess að skilja betur eðli snöggra loftslagsbreytinga.
Lesa meiraMældar voru landbreytingar með gervitunglatækni á svæðinu frá Bláfjöllum austur yfir Suðurland að Heklu. Þessar mælingar sýna verulegar hreyfingar, einkum á Hengilssvæðinu. Gervitunglamælingarnar eru notaðar til að reikna hraðasvið á svæðinu fyrir tímabilið 2008-2015, eftir Ölfusskjálftana í maí 2008.
Lesa meiraThe project Icelandic Identity in Crisis critically investigates nationalistic, racial and gendered aspects of identity formation in Iceland in the aftermath of the economic crash in 2008.
Lesa meiraThe impact of the project has been improved understanding of basic fundamental properties of wireless networking, and how to designing algorithms with performance guarantees.
Lesa meiraThe main objectives of the project was development of surrogate models for integrated photonic components based on coarse-discretization EM simulations, investigating a possibility of utilizing 2D simulations to develop fast replacement models of 3D components, development of surrogate-assisted algorithms for reduced-cost design optimization of photonic components and devices, as well as numerical verifications of the developed methodologies by means of handling specific design problems.
Lesa meiraThe main objective of this project was to characterize the high pressure in situ strategies developed by T. barophilus, strain MP and to compare its responses to a piezotolerant strain belonging to the same genus, Thermococcus kodakarensis KOD1.
Lesa meiraKjarnsýrur gegna mörgum hlutverkum í lífverum. Upplýsingar um byggingu og hreyfingu kjarnsýra varpa ljósi á hvernig þær geta sinnt sínum fjölbreyttu hlutverkum.
Lesa meiraVacuum tubes have a long and distinguished history in electronics. Although they have been mostly replaced by solid state devices in consumer electronics, primarily due to cost issues, they still have an important role to play, particularly in generating radiation at high frequency and high power.
Lesa meiraHekla is one of the most active volcanoes in Iceland and has an infamously short pre-eruptive warning period. Our project contributes to the ongoing work on improving Hekla's monitoring and early warning systems.
Lesa meiraThe focal point of the TeMa project is the potential impact of volcanism on the marine ecosystem.
Lesa meiraPsoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory joint disease which can cause significant disability. It primarily occurs among individuals who already have developed the skin disease psoriasis. This project is part of an international collaboration involving the University of Iceland, Boston University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard Medical School, and the Icelandic Research Fund funded the participation of an Icelandic researcher and his master‘s students in the project.
Lesa meiraIn the autumn 2008, Icelanders experienced a sudden national economic collapse. From being one of the richest nations in the world, the country suffered a major economic breakdown, affecting all inhabitants of Iceland in some way. Recent studies on the health consequences of the Icelandic economic collapse suggest an increase in depressive symptoms and perceived psychological stress, as well as an immediate short-term increase in attendance to a cardiac emergency department, among women in particular.
Lesa meiraThe extensive amount of data generated within this project covered multiple aspects of the behavioural ecology of Icelandic killer whales that created an unprecedented degree of new knowledge on this population.
Lesa meiraIn general, Arctic charr exhibited vast variability in the overall level and the timing of activity.
Lesa meiraVerkefnið er samstarfsverkefni MARICE og Lífeðlisfræðistofnunar við Háskóla Íslands, sem og Hafrannsóknastofnunarinnar.
Lesa meiraIn this project the Arctic charr found in 20 lava caves in two areas around Lake Mývatn in NE-Iceland were studied.
Lesa meiraThe Western Volcanic Zone has been considerably active during postglacial times, even though it is less active than the faster spreading Northern Volcanic Zone.
This project formed the basis for the preliminary work that led to a funded application for a Consolidator Grant to the European Research Council, application titled “A Multilevel Analysis on the Effects of Stress on Biology, Emotions, and Behavior Throughout Childhood (ERC-CoG-2014 – 647860, LIFECOURSE)”.
Lesa meiraThe strategy that was followed is based on copper promoted sequential condensations of terminal acetylenes with propargyl halides and attaching a diyne head group to an appropriate mono-, di-, tri- or tetrayne tail part, depending on the target molecule, regardless of whether synthesizing the polyunsaturated MELs or n-3 PUFAs.
Lesa meiraThe project involved a study of various micron-scale magnetic field sensors. These included magnetic tunnel junction sensors, perpendicular magnetization anomalous Hall effect sensors (FePt), and planar Hall effect sensors (NiFe, “Permalloy”).
Lesa meiraIn this project a transferable interaction potential for water molecules has been developed. The potential is based on a single-center multipole expansion (SCME) of the electrostatic interactions, and although many interaction potentials for water have previously been developed, the SCME model is unique in that the multipole expansion is carried out all the way up to the hexadecapole moment.
Lesa meiraThe main findings include a new and improved Logarithmic Law of the Wall model for the velocity profile in convective channel flow and phenomenological models for the evolution of the Nusselt number as a function of Reynolds number and Rayleigh number in a mixed convective flow.
Lesa meiraThe objective of the project was to include Iceland in the rigorous and highly disciplined European Social Survey (ESS). Including Iceland in round 6 of the ESS provides the Icelandic and international academic community with valuable information about the civic society, personal and social well-being and Europeans' understanding and expectation of democracy.
Lesa meiraPreviously we discovered that drug/cyclodextrin complexes can self-assemble in aqueous solutions to form nanoparticles (aggregates). The diameter of these nanoparticles is about 100 nm. In this project the nanoparticles were allowed to selfassemble further to form small microparticles with limited water solubility.
Lesa meiraThe main goal of the project was to engage with definitions of the paranormal (supernatural, occult) in medieval Iceland. Various sources were consulted, such as sagas of Icelanders, Sturlunga saga, bishops' sagas, the Eddas and legendary sagas.
Lesa meiraThe overall aim of this research project was to investigate physical activity (PA), aerobic fitness, body composition, metabolic risk factors, and cognitive function among children and adolescents with intellectual disability (ID).
Lesa meiraThis project aimed to characterize the non-phototrophic microbiota of lichens, in particular that of the membranous dog lichen, Peltigera membranacea, and elucidate some of the roles the constituent bacteria play in the symbiotic association.
Lesa meiraThe project concentrated on the calculation of earthquake focal mechanisms and a subsequent determination of their causative stress field.
Lesa meiraIn early 2009 the Krýsuvík region on the Reykjanes Peninsula started inflating accompanied by high seismic activity.
Lesa meiraThe project aimed at developing novel strategies for the automatic analysis and detection of changes occurred on areas of interest.
